A large portion of the ideas and imagery in my “Windows & Doorways: Portals of Discovery” series is inspired by personal experiences and inner reflections. From travelling, to appreciating the small things of our everyday, my love of nature, and the magic of the great outdoors. These elements are all the while being woven in with the present moment of becoming a first-time mother.

These heartfelt reflections tell a story, one infused with gratitude, hope, resilience, understanding and, above all, the call of destiny. A key part of the human condition is this spark for something, whether that be a desire to try something new, an innermost dream, or a goal a person has set for themselves. It’s the desire to explore a new place; its the desire to grow.

By glimpsing the world outside through a window, a person is encouraging the appreciation of the unexpected. When opening a window, you are welcoming the world outside, to become part of your experience within.

A doorway, however, is interestingly different. By deciding to approach a door, to have the courage to open that door and step beyond, towards the place that has been calling to your heart and soul, is a profound moment.

Doorways are not only a symbol of transition, but are often a symbol of a barrier – a silent fear. When we have the curiosity to even step through this barrier, we are better for it. We are met with a realization of wonder and possibility, clasped hand ‘n hand with the excitement of the unknown.
